Descritpion
Native to China, red yeast rice is a fermentation by-product of cooked non-glutinous rice on which red yeast has been grown. It contains small amounts of naturally occurring Monacolin K. Monacolin K appears to inhibit the action of an enzyme in the liver (3-hydroxy-3-methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase) that is responsible for producing cholesterol.
